Offensive Principles
I will be adding a 1-4-1 and a 23 Pairs offense (slightly modified from last year) to this, but for now we learn our base offense which is the 30 Set, AKA Iroquois. As an offense we are guided by a few principle ideas. I have described these below.
HIPPO
We should move the ball after three steps or three seconds. Essentially, don't let the ball die in your stick. This is vital to success because our offensive concepts are designed around working as a team and dodging an approach is much easier than a stagnant dodge.
Roles
All of our offenses have six roles. How those roles are executed vary in each offense but understanding the roles will allow you to better excel at the offense and really allows us maximum creativity in terms of who goes where.
Dodger | Player who is carrying the ball
Ball Side High (BH) | This player cuts to the crease and ends on the ball side on a high crease.
Back Side Low (BL) | This is a player who cuts to the crease but ends up on the backside pipe low and tight to the crease.
X / Hinge | This is the player who is the adjacent outlet to the dodger to his face.
Follow | He follows the dodger. It is important he gets into the wake of the dodger so that it is easy for a pull pass / roll back to happen.
