DII Lacrosse Prepares for High-Stakes Clash Against Appalachian State

Blacksburg, VA – The Virginia Tech Division II Men’s Lacrosse team is set for a pivotal early-season matchup against Appalachian State, a key divisional rival and the team that ended the Hokies’ playoff run last year. With redemption on their minds, Virginia Tech will travel to Boone, NC, for a showdown on Saturday, March 1, at 1:00 PM at Watauga High School.

The Hokies have been preparing for this moment since last season’s tough playoff loss, and the rematch against App State presents an opportunity to make a strong statement. Appalachian State, known for its aggressive defense and high-powered transition game, will look to maintain its dominance over Virginia Tech, but the Hokies are determined to flip the script this time around.

“This game means a lot to our program,” said Virginia Tech Head Coach Joel Smith. “Last year’s loss left a bad taste in our mouths, and our guys have been working hard to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. We know what App State brings to the table, and we’re ready to compete.”

Virginia Tech’s success will hinge on its ability to control the tempo, win faceoffs, and capitalize on scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, App State’s physical play and home-field advantage will make this a true test for the Hokies’ resilience.

“This is a game we’ve had circled on the calendar,” said Hokies captain Nicholas Bellem. “We know what’s at stake, and we’re ready to leave it all on the field.”

With emotions running high and both teams looking to assert themselves in the division, fans can expect a hard-fought battle that could have postseason implications down the road.
