Virginia Tech Men’s Lacrosse Gears Up for Crucial Weekend Road Tests

by Panchito Ojeda

Blacksburg, VA – The Virginia Tech Men’s Lacrosse teams are set for a challenging weekend as both Division I and Division II squads hit the road for pivotal matchups.

The Division I Hokies travel to Florida for a tough back-to-back slate, beginning with a showdown against No. 15 Florida State on Friday, February 16, before facing Florida on Saturday, February 17.

Florida State enters the game riding high after a 19-16 victory over West Virginia, showing their offensive firepower. The Seminoles’ top-15 ranking makes this a significant test for Virginia Tech as they look to make an early-season statement.

The Hokies will have little time to recover before facing a dangerous Florida squad on Saturday. The Gators are coming off impressive wins over South Carolina and Tennessee—the same Tennessee team that handed Virginia Tech a loss in the fall. However, Florida fell to Georgia, making them hungry for a bounce-back performance at home.

“These are two major tests against strong competition,” said Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. “Florida State is a top-15 team coming off a big win, and Florida has already beaten teams we know are tough. We need to bring our best effort and execute at a high level.”

Meanwhile, the Division II Hokies will be in action on Saturday, February 17, traveling to Davidson for a crucial divisional battle. A win would position Virginia Tech favorably in the conference standings as they push for postseason contention.

"This is a big divisional game for us," said Division II Head Coach Joel Smith. "Davidson is always a tough opponent, and these are the games that matter most when it comes to conference standings. Our guys are ready for the challenge, and we’re looking forward to competing at a high level this weekend."
