D1 Hokies Dominate Weekend Competition with Two Blowout Wins
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Hokies Men's Lacrosse team showcased its strength and skill this weekend with two resounding victories. On Saturday, the Hokies dismantled High Point with an astounding 23-2 win, and on Sunday, they continued their dominant play by overcoming UNC 22-4.
In both contests, the Hokies’ superior execution on both ends of the field was unmistakable. The team’s defense was anchored by an impressive presence in the cage, with Gabe Margosis and Andrew Wickman consistently thwarting opposition scoring attempts. Their steadfast performance allowed the offense the freedom to relentlessly attack.
At the dot, a trio of exceptional playmakers—Alex Fein, Erik Valente, and Patrick Winkert—provided the creative spark at the faceoff dot. Their work at the dot gave the Hokies a significant possession advantage leading to more goals.
"Our performance this weekend truly reflects the dedication and hard work of every member of our team," said Panchito Ojeda. "Dominating both High Point and UNC with such decisive scores speaks volumes about our preparation and the unity of our squad. We’re proud of the effort our players put forth on the field."
The overwhelming victories have not only boosted team morale but also reinforced Virginia Tech’s standing as a formidable force in Division I lacrosse. The impressive blend of aggressive offense, strategic play, and a lock-down defensive unit sets the stage for a promising season ahead.
The Hokies head on the road to compete in the Battle for Virginia with Liberty University who is preseason ranked #3.
